Made popular by Tom Barr, Manzanita driftwood is commonly obtained from Pacific west coast of USA and characterized by light natural tones and branchy pieces. Pieces are sand blasted and pressure washed.

Some driftwoods can leech tannins that can result in a brown or yellowish tint to the water. The tint will reduce over time with water changes. Boiling the driftwood can reduce the tannins. Alternatively soak it in water until tint is acceptable to you.

Driftwoods have trapped air and can float why initially submerged. Soak it in water until it fully sinks before using. You can also use a heavy rock or decor to keep it submerged until it naturally sinks by itself.
